Greetings!
Those in positions of influence and authority in a community have a great responsibility to govern properly and lead the people. Whether they are School Principals, City Councillors, Members of Parliament, Law Enforcements Officers, Emergency Services, Health Workers, Youth Workers, Aged Care Workers, etc. they all have been appointed to serve the Community.
CE Community Empowerment is about helping Churches come along sid e these leaders and other Community Groups and helping them make a difference. A member of a Local Council once said that Churches have a great advantage when they hold programs in the community, because they have the support of a large number of people who can assist with the program. On the other hand, when a Community Development Officer runs a program, they may be on their own or with another worker, but they do not have the support of extra people like a church has.
There are many opportunities for Churches to become involved in the community. Every week in the local newspaper there are adverts asking for volunteers to assist the various programs held in Schools, Community Centres, Libraries, etc. Some of the programs are Crisis Management Programs, dealing with people in need now, whereas others are Preventative Programs that help empower people to stop them getting into a crisis. Churches are a huge human resource pool with people of all different backgrounds, experience, skills, gifts, etc. who can assist with these programs.
CE Community Empowerment helps Churches connect with those in their community in a more effective way. By adopting a holistic approach, Churches can influence and empower others in their community. Also, members of the Congregation will have more opportunities to be involved in a practical way.
